{"id":247798,"date":"2014-09-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/?p=247798"},"modified":"2024-11-07T20:22:07","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T20:22:07","slug":"usps-announces-new-shipping-rates-for-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/article\/usps-announces-new-shipping-rates-for-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS Announces New Shipping Rates for 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/usps-logo_nov-2011.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/usps-logo_nov-2011.jpg\" alt=\"usps-logo_nov-2011\" class=\"wp-image-2089\" title=\"usps-logo_nov-2011\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n<p>The U.S. Postal Service has&nbsp;proposed new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/usps\/postage-rate-increase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2012 shipping rates<\/a> that are expected to start on January 22, 2012.&nbsp;&nbsp; The average increase for all shipping classes is 4.6%.&nbsp; Private carriers such as UPS and FedEx have already announced price increases for 2012.&nbsp; UPS announced last week they are increasing prices on ground and air shipments by an average of 4.9%.&nbsp; In September, FedEx announced it would increase rates by an average of 5.9%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) must review and approve the new rates before they become effective January 22, 2012.&nbsp; This is the same day the new USPS mailing service prices will take effect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>New USPS Shipping Products for 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A new, larger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/usps\/priority-mail-regional-rate-box\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Priority Mail Regional Rate Box C<\/a> will be introduced that will hold up to 25 pounds.\u00a0 Box size is expected to be 12\u201d x 12\u201d x 15\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Express Mail Flat Rate Box<\/span> will be introduced that holds up to 70 pounds.\u00a0 Cost will be \u00a0$39.95 for domestic mailings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Package Intercept<\/span> will be introduced for commercial mailers.\u00a0 Customers can request mail be intercepted before final delivery is attempted to the initial delivery address. The shipment can be returned to sender, held for pick up at a Post Office, or redirected to an alternate address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First Class Package Service (aka First Class Parcels) will now include the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Intelligent Mail package barcode<\/span> and will provide free visibility to these parcels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Priority Mail<br><\/strong>Priority Mail retail (Post Office) prices will increase an average of 3.1% in 2012.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Express Mail<br><\/strong>USPS retail rates for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/usps\/express-mail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Express Mail<\/a> will increase an average of 3.3% in 2012.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Parcel Select<br><\/strong>Prices for Parcel Select, the U.S. Postal Service\u2019s bulk ground shipping product, will increase an average of 8.5%.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>First Class Package Service (formerly known as First Class Parcels)<br><\/strong>First Class Parcels were recently transferred to the \u201ccompetitive product list\u201d which allows the mail class to be eligible for Commercial Base pricing. The mail class was renamed First Class Package Service and will see an average increase of 3.7% in 2012.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>International Mail<br><\/strong>The overall increase for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/usps\/priority-mail-international\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Priority Mail International<\/a> will be 8.7%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Express Mail International will increase by 11.6% and will introduce a two new Express Mail International Flat Rate Boxes with a maximum weight of 20 pounds.&nbsp; Customers will pay a flat rate of $59.95 to Canada and $74.95 for all other countries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Global Express Guaranteed prices will rise by 6.0%.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Stamps.com Will Automatically Include New Rates on January 22, 2012<br><\/strong>Stamps.com makes it easy to prepare for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamps.com\/usps\/postage-rate-increase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">postal rate change<\/a> by automatically applying these new prices starting on January 22, 2012.&nbsp;
